Blood drive Monday proves Norwich is a "Community That Cares"
NORWICH – Residents of Norwich and the American Red Cross will join together for a special blood drive on Monday, Dec. 27, from noon – 7 p.m. at the Howard Johnson at 75 North Broad Street in Norwich. All presenting donors will receive a free American Red Cross T-Shirt provided by Christman Motor Sales, Inc, as well as free yogurt from Chobani.
A “Community That Cares” blood drive is a Red Cross initiative to help engage local citizens and boost regional blood supplies by enlisting community support. The goal at this drive is to collect 100 units of blood.
All presenting donors at this blood drive, and at all drives in December in the New York-Penn Region, will be eligible to enter a raffle to win one of four Home Theater Entertainment Packages, courtesy of Best Buy, which include a large, flat screen TV, a Blu-ray player and a surround sound stereo system.
Blood donors are always needed, as each donation has the potential to save up to three lives. Red blood cells help people with severe trauma injuries and chronic anemia. Platelets benefit cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and plasma helps burn victims and patients with critical diseases.
Eligible volunteer blood donors are asked to please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make appointments. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission in some states), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to give blood. Positive identification is required at the time of donation.
